• Getting Jefferson back to business

Jefferson Parish businesses are encouraged to begin their preparations now for the 2009 Hurricane Season. Parish authorities want businesses to apply now for post-disaster business re-entry placards.

In the event that a full-scale re-entry from an evacuation is not feasible, Jefferson Parish will implement its Evacuation Re-Entry. Special placards will be required for access to the disaster area during the re-entry process.

Businesses will be allowed back into the parish on a three-tiered, priority basis. "Not only is this a Jefferson Parish plan it's a region-wide plan. The same plan exists in all of southeast Louisiana," says Jefferson Parish Homeland Security Chief Deano Bonano.

Businesses can view the entire plan, see if they qualify and apply on-line. "It's very important, before you do that, to have your occupational license handy," says Parish Homeland Security Chief Deano Bonano. You will need the number from that license in order to apply.

To view the plan click the following link:

Then, click on 'Evacuation Re-Entry Plan' to view.

To apply, go back to the home page and click on 'JumpStart Jefferson Re-Entry Placards' in the upper right corner. The re-entry application process is where you register your business to apply for re-entry status and receive your credentials.

If a business owner feels he or she qualifies for a different tier than specified, there is a process to appeal.

Business owners should register for re-entry as soon as possible to ensure they have their credentials prior to any type of evacuation.
