•Assumption Parish: Mandatory Evacuation, Curfew, Alcohol Sales Ban

Information from Assumption Parish Police Jury

A mandatory evacuation of all of Assumption Parish has been issued.  Assumption Parish is expecting sustained winds of 50 - 70 mph with gusts at 85 mph.  Tropical storm force winds are expected by 6 a.m. on Wednesday and are expected to endure until 1 p.m. on Wednesday.  Normal conditions are expected by 7 a.m. on Thursday morning.

All Assumption Parish Schools will be CLOSED on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Assumption Parish has called for a curfew to go into effect, Tuesday, at MIDNIGHT, along with a ban on the sale of alcohol. Both curfew and ban on sale of alcohol will be in place until further notice.

A shelter of last resort has been opened on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m.  The shelter is at Belle Rose Middle School, 7177 Highway 1 in Belle Rose.  All evacuees should bring ALL necessary items such as sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, toiletries, personal hygiene items, medicines, food, water, and personal identification.  NO COTS WILL BE PROVIDED!

There are currently NO road closures in Assumption Parish. DOTD is continually monitoring Highway 70 in the Grand Bayou/Bayou Corne community.

Any resident with medical concerns or special needs should call the TRIAGE LINE at 1-800-228-9409 to be evaluated and cleared for the Special Needs shelter.

Due to storm conditions and the uncertainty regarding its aftermath, it has been decided to postpone the distribution of evacuee assistance checks that had been originally scheduled for Thursday, August 30.

The intent of Texas Brine is to reschedule the distribution to Friday, August 31, but a venue has not yet been confirmed.  Once confirmed, a notification will be sent to the media and other Assumption Parish officials and information sites.
